ITP, Risk Assessment, Method Statement & Data sheet Templates — 4 New Equipment Document

Every piece of rotating and static equipment on an industrial project needs the same paper trail before it can be handed over: a datasheet to spec it, a method statement to install it safely, a risk assessment to control the hazards, an ITP to inspect it correctly, and a checklist to close it out. Missing even one of these slows down handover and creates rework at the worst possible time — during commissioning, under schedule pressure.

1. Package Chiller Unit (AHRI 550/590, ASHRAE 15)

A packaged chiller is one of the most expensive single line items on a utilities package, and it’s also one of the most commonly under-documented — sites often receive the unit with a vendor manual and nothing else project-specific.

Datasheet — captures refrigerant type and charge, compressor configuration, process conditions, and electrical data in one place, so procurement, engineering, and site all work from the same numbers instead of chasing a vendor PDF.

Method Statement — sequences the lift, positioning, piping tie-ins, and refrigerant charging safely, with the manpower and tooling laid out up front.

Risk Assessment — covers rigging, refrigerant release, and electrical hazards with real control measures, not generic boilerplate.

ITP — locks in Hold and Witness points for the pressure test, IR test, and performance run so nothing gets missed under time pressure.

Checklist + Excel Tracker — a 6-page sign-off checklist paired with a live-dashboard tracker so a QA/QC lead can see completion status at a glance across every chiller on a project.

The benefit of a ready-made version: building this set from scratch typically eats the better part of a day per document type. Starting from a validated, standards-referenced template turns that into an editing pass.

2. Steam/Gas Ejector (HEI Standards, ASME Sec. VIII, TEMA)

Ejector packages are less common than pumps or valves, which means fewer engineers have a template sitting in their drive already — this is exactly the kind of less-obvious but genuinely needed documentation gap we build for.

Datasheet — process design data (stages, gas load, motive steam), condenser data, and materials of construction in one datasheet.

Method Statement — the steam-line precautions and rigging sequence specific to ejector skids.

Risk Assessment — steam-leak and vacuum-implosion hazards addressed directly, not folded into a generic pressure-equipment risk assessment.

ITP — includes the air-in-leakage test and performance run-test as explicit hold points, which HEI standards call for but generic ITPs often omit.

Checklist + Excel Tracker — receiving through final acceptance, with steam economy and condensate handling covered in the pre-commissioning section.

3. Basket/Duplex Strainer (ASME B31.3, MSS SP-25)

Strainers get treated as an afterthought on a piping isometric — until a fouled basket takes down a pump downstream. The documentation is quick to build once, then reusable across every strainer on the project.

Datasheet — mesh size, free area, and pressure drop limits captured against the process requirement, not left to be worked out on-site.

Method Statement — line-break and tie-in sequence with correct bolt torque procedure.

Risk Assessment — residual-pressure and bolt-up hazards, the two most common strainer-installation incidents.

ITP — mesh size verification and duplex switch-over functional test as explicit hold points.

Checklist + Excel Tracker — covers the duplex switch-over test under live flow, which basic strainer checklists frequently miss.

4. Inline Silencer (API 521, ASME B31.3, OSHA 1910.95)

Relief and vent silencers sit at the intersection of pressure-safety and noise-compliance documentation, so they need both a mechanical ITP and an acoustic performance check — most generic templates cover only one.

Datasheet — required insertion loss and backpressure limits specified alongside the mechanical data.

Method Statement — working-at-height controls for stack-mounted units are called out explicitly, since these are frequently installed elevated.

Risk Assessment — fall-from-height risk rated at the same severity as the lifting risk, reflecting how these units are typically installed.

ITP — includes an acoustic performance check as a hold point where a field noise survey is specified.

Checklist + Excel Tracker — verifies backpressure and insertion loss against design targets at commissioning, not just mechanical completion.
